We are looking for a live-in manager or duty manager to run our busy guesthouse and hostel in Waterford, in the South-East of Ireland.
Depending on experience, the position may be for manager, assistant manager or duty manager.
This is a live-in position – the successful candidate will be provided with a private room in an apartment on site of the business with all bills included.
The property has been in operation 4 and a half years. We currently have a manager but he will be leaving in a couple of weeks. The new candidate may or may not be doing the same role – this will be decided depending on who is hired.
The job involves all aspects of running the business: Check-ins, managing staff, training, organising improvements, cleaning, making breakfast, decorating, marketing, dealing with guest queries etc. etc. but as already said the exact tasks will depend on the person’s experience.
Important attributes: We need someone energetic and friendly with the confidence and maturity to recognise issues and take the initiative when something needs to be done. As regards staff, currently we have a manager (who may be leaving), 1 full time & 1 part time receptionist / assistant manager, and 5 volunteers. The manager is responsible for ensuring that all tasks are done on a daily basis – both through management of the staff and through tackling tasks themselves. The manager will report into the proprietor. Some experience is preferred and excellent written and spoken English is essential. The job includes accommodation and all utility bills.
We can only take people with EU passports or appropriate visas for Ireland.
Specific hostel / guesthouse management experience isn’t necessary but since this isn’t an entry level position, work experience of some kind is needed (we can’t take anyone straight out of school or college for example).
