Seeing northern light is definitely in the top of my dream list, I’ve heard some stories when I was young, that if you make a wish or kiss with your lover under the magic green aurora, your wish will come true and you will be together forever. I know it’s silly but the green light just stuck in my mind, and I told myself I have to see them one day.

In the early of this year, some new said that the sun activities are quite strong and we might see the most magnificent light displays for 50 years. So what I’m waiting for? I booked my flights to Tromso immediately, and you may wondering why Tromso, because Tromso is one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights, with 97% of chance!!!!!!

Tromso, just a few hundred kilometers from the Arctic Circle, is perfectly placed for seeing the elusive aurora borealis. The lights never come with a guarantee but for aurora hunters to succeed, there must be clear skies and as little light pollution as possible. This is where Tromsø comes into its own as the Sun never rises above the horizon in winter, leaving it shrouded in a bizarre half-light. There are several tour operators with more or less Aurora guarantee’, they will drive inland a couple of hours to find a good spot. Cost roughly 1000NOK. We choose Tromso Safari Company which they guarantee you if you couldn’t see the northern light then you can join the next day tour for free. They took us to some base station located 40km from the city centre, and yes, I saw the magic green northern light!!! They were green, white, purple and dancing in the sky with millions of stars, it’s spectacular, amazing and even insane.

The next day we visit the city and it really surprised me a lot, Tromso is not only about northern light, it has a lot more to see. The city is small and lovely with the old buildings decorated my snow, the harbor is extremely beautiful during the night with all the lights. Several nature museums are open from Monday to Sunday that will make you understand more about aurora and polar bear. My favorite place to visit is the Flà Mountain, you can go to the top by an old cab car, quite scaring but you will be amazed once you arrived at the top. I swear it’s just like the heaven on earth. Everything up there is breath taking. However beautiful the city is at ground level, it’s more spectacular from above.

This trip is definitely my best trip so far, I will cross my finger for you if you want to visit Tromso and chase the magic northern light.

Tromso is located in the north of Norway, where is known as the most expensive country in the word. So be prepared before you actually going there. The people there are very kind, friendly and easy-going. The fish there are so delicious and fresh.’,’I bought my flight tickets in www.norwegian.no, they have direct flights from Helsinki to Tromso, which only take 1 hour and a half.

I stayed at Comfort Hotel, it’s about 30 euro per person per night. I booked it in Hostel.com. Its a very nice hotel to stay, the location is super convenient, only 2mins walk from the city center and 5 mins to the harbor. The room is clean and has a big comfy bed. The staffs there are very nice and willing to help all the time. Also they have high-speed wifi which is very important, haha.

Check the weather forecast before you book your tickets.

Prepare some warm clothes, gloves and scarfs.

Wish yourself a good luck.
