After many months spent in the beautiful but constantly rainy Ireland, I decided that it was the right moment to move to a warmer place. I started to look for summer job around Europe trying also to find something which was related to my passion: scuba diving. I already had some experience in the field but nothing similar to that I was going into.
After few days spent sending CV and having Skype interview, I got this position as a dive master in training in a 5* resort in Sardinia. In particular the diving was based in one of finest beaches of the island, Costa Rei.
The deal was working full-time in the diving in return of free accommodation and food, as well as diving certificates and lots and lots of fun! I couldn’t ask for more!
My typical day was starting early in the morning: at 8:30am I was already at the beach preparing everything for the divers and after a quick boat trip, around 10am, we were already underwater. Diving in the morning is amazing, the sun is high in the sky and it gives a wonderful crystal light perfect to enjoy the diving. Back to the resort around 11:30, after a quick lunch we were again in the water around 2pm, usually in the pool, where I was helping the instructor with the courses, especially when kids were present. At noon was time to talk to people around the village, let them know about the diving, about our activities and at the same time using this moment just to have a chat and make some friends. It was my favourite part of the job!
The work day was over around 7pm, just in time to grab a beer and enjoy the sunset.
Highlights and Thoughts
Sardinia island it’s unique. Even if I am Italian, being on this island is like going to another country; different language, different culture, different tradition, different people.
The landscape it’s so beautiful: you have the sea, the wild nature, mountains and of course great food! Everything seems out of time, the atmosphere is really relaxed and you can really enjoy simple things. In a word: just amazing.
I arrived there with a cheap Ryanair flight. I flew from Cork city (IE) to Milano and then from Milano to Cagliari . Once there I took a bus to Muravera, a small town located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) northeast of Cagliari.
I lived in a small house rented by our boss and shared with the other member of the crew. The place was a bit isolate but really characteristic: we had a huge olive three in the middle of the garden, horses running around and a beautiful patio perfect to chill out with friends after a long day spent working.
Private diving located inside a 5* resort.
It’s an amazing opportunity , if you have the passion for diving and you want to get some experience this is the perfect way to do it! Don’t miss the chance.. It will be one of the best time of your life!
The job was great. I had the chance to visit by boat some of the most amazing Sardinian spot, meeting new people and share with them exciting underwater adventures. Every day was different, every diving more exciting than the previous one. I am so happy that I had the chance to do an experience like this!
It was cool, I would stay there again!
