Five fantastic months working in an afterski bar and living at the base of the slopes in Hafjell!’
Norway defintely has a more laid back vibe to it’s slope life. It’s mostly locals who use the slopes so there’s not raging parties every night but that also means there’s hardly ever any lift queues.
I lived a four minute walk from the lifts and from the bar where I worked which meant loads of ski time. It was super easy to get up, ski before the bar opened, go to work, then get an hour or two of night skiing after work as well.
Highlights and Thoughts
The resort at Hafjell isn’t huge but has plenty of range and opportunities for off piste. Lots of great hiking around the area too!
I was based in the UK at the time so cheap and easy flight to Oslo. I was picked up from the airport by my new boss but the train/bus links around the country are pretty easy as well.
Norwegians all speak English so that is easy but other Scandinavians dominate the season job market so definitely set yourself up with job potential before you go!
