Work abroad without experience
One of lifes many adventures is getting out in the world, exploring and meeting the many different characters that make up this planet. In doing so you grow as a person, you learn and you find a new found respect for different cultures.
You just need to start. To work abroad without experience is how many of us get going. When I was 19 I had only worked one job in a restaurant when I found myself living in the ski hills of Canada having the time of my life. You learn to work hard , to play hard, to figure things out for yourself , these life skills will stand you in good stead for everything you do including universities and employers who are increasingly looking for living abroad experience.
So how to get started?
Start thinking, Research and Apply
Use live seasonal and other resources to research and discover, plan your trip, find jobs, language and other adventures. Possible thoughts may include.
- Where would I like to go
- Do I want to work, study, do a work exchange, combo etc
- Am I eligible for a visa for this country
- I wonder what its like to live their, what the people are like
- How do I find Jobs and Accommodation in that country
- + many more
It all starts with a dream
Save up, buy a ticket. Everything great happens because of hard work, this is tre no matter what stage at your life you are at and if you want to have a truly incredible experience it all begins with hard work. This could mean working to fund your travels, getting good grades, researching and finding a job and accommodation. Of course spontanaiety is paramount to any adventure and dont you worry there will be surprises and adventures by the truck load when you embark.
Finding a job before you go
The best way I always found to get a job while traveling was to do my research and initiate contact before I go. If I am planning to go for an extended period I would have a visa and make a short list of possible options using local resources to see what is available and to get an idea of how the particular place perceived.
I would then apply call them up and apply online. This sets the ball in motion and the possible job now knows who you are. Keep following up and looking for as many opportunities as you can(use liveseasonal, Google….. and local publications to get started.
With these types of positions its best to play a numbers game but be strategic in highlighting your skills and personality. Once you land go visit all the places directly and see if they are hiring. This was how I was mostly able to get all my travel jobs. Just remember there is usually a high and low season in the Travel industry. Be persistent.
These are just my thoughts but make sure to do as much research and preparation before you go to make your life easier upon arrival.
